Assiniboine Community College (ACC) Adult Collegiate

Jeff Kerr Memorial Bursary

This bursary was established in 2010 in honour of Jeff Kerr through the initiative of ASEC and Glen Brouwer, who was ASEC President. ASEC committed to providing the initial $500, which the Adult Collegiate was to manage and grow for an annual bursary worth $400. The fund is maintained by ACC Adult Collegiate staff through direct donations and managed by the Finance and Audit Committee of Assiniboine Community College Foundation Inc.

The terms of reference indicate that the bursary is intended to provide financial assistance to an ACC Adult Collegiate student who is enrolled as a full-time student. The first recipients were Dawn Blampied in 2011 and Lisa Vandevelde in 2012. Imeke Kerr, Jeff’s wife, was the guest of honour presenting the awards.

Jeff Kerr, former manager/director of ACC Adult Collegiate was involved in adult education at ACC from the late 1990’s until 2003. He was a visionary who saw the potential of adult learning centres to play a huge role in the lives of Manitobans. He was instrumental in laying the groundwork for adult learning centres in Manitoba, a catalyst for the inception of ASEC, and the dual credits in adult learning centres.

Jeff epitomised integrity, professionalism, and humility. He was a champion for students who, despite many obstacles, persevered to achieve their dreams.
