Starr Writers Contest Winners

Starr Writers Contest Winners

The ASEC Board and Starr Writers Committee members are pleased to announce the 2017 Starr Writers contest winners.

We had an incredible response to the contest this year with almost 30 entries! We were touched and inspired by all the stories we read, and selecting just three winners from this pool was no easy task. With that in mind, we have selected three essays which we felt struck a balance between telling a compelling story of adult education and demonstrating effective writing skills in delivering that story. We also feel that our winners this year reflect the diversity of adult learners across this province.

The 2017 Starr Writers Contest winners are:

  • 1st place – Cheyenne Nelson, Stony Mountain Adult Education Centre
  • 2nd place – Houda Alkwatli, McLeod Adult Education Centre
  • 3rd place – Branndy Balla, Seven Oaks Adult Learning Centre

The winners have been contacted and invited to share their work at the ASEC Fall Conference in October.

We thank everyone who entered the contest, and we hope you will submit entries for the 2018 contest!
